" Come to me , all you who are weary and burdened , and I will give you rest ." Matthew 11:28 NIV

Addiction, what a lowering, dishonoring and heavy word to hear. My son is a drug addict, a mother tells me, would you talk to him and convince him to get out of that bad thing he’s into?

People don’t see how deeply rooted addiction can be in the core of our spiritual being. They take it for a bad habit that you should force someone to get out of before it gets too late.

But let us be straight forward here. Addiction takes heaven’s intervention simply because heaven has the right perspective about it & therefore Jesus is the only one who is able to break its grip and its enslavement.

“If the son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36.) This means addiction goes so deep in our being and only our creator himself can set us free from it. From heaven’s eye, addiction is what I call a worship disorder. You know whom you worship and what is object of your worship determine who you are and who you become.

We are born with the ability to worship, we are wired and equipped to worship God because the more we worship him, the free-er we get, and this is not a gift with strings attached. The more we sit in His presence, the more we glow with His glory and Satan has no power over us.

James 4:7 says “Submit to God, resist the devil and He will flee from you.” So all what matters is whom do you worship, God or the object of your addiction?

Every addiction makes us slaves to it. Because Satan is throwing bait after Bait to enslave people therefore turning their hearts from the worshiping  the Lord because he knows that this is the only way to freedom. His bait could be drugs, porn, alcohol, money, etc… And O He has many substitutes to God to offer, baits that could suit any weakness, any selfish desire, any hurt, any bitterness, you name it and He has a perverted substitute for it.

Satan covers but if you claim your freedom, he exposes you.

God sheds His light on you to expose what Satan has done.

Satan recruits  slaves and agents.

God accepts lost and sinners to adopt them as sons and daughters.

Satan throws a bait to hunt you down like a prey.

God throws a net to embrace all who come and make them family.

Satan deceives people into drug addiction making them think that it carries a solution to their problems.

God sets a choice before you. He says: “See I set before you life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep His command, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.” (Deut 30:15&16.)

That’s the invitation that the Lord is putting before us. Come and choose life, choose Jesus.
